Excuses, Excuses

Olivia is having a tough time settling down to go to sleep tonight. She just called James in, he is at the store so I went. Here is our conversation:

Olivia: Where is daddy?

Me: He is at the store. Why aren't you sleeping?

Olivia: Because when daddy snores, it is keeping me awake.

Me: Daddy isn't even home right now.

Olivia: But when he snores it keeps me awake.

Me: He isn't home right now, and he is not snoring.

Olivia: But when he comes home, and he snores it will keep me awake.

Me: Just go to sleep please

It is not easy to reason with her sometimes.

My Little Entreprenuer

My son has become quite the little entreprenuer lately, but at his sister's expense. First, he asked me if he could make and sell something to make money like lemonade. I said sure but it wasn't really the right time of year for that. He also wanted to sell the lemonade for $5 a glass. (Maybe he'll end up in the oil and gas industry.) He was pretty disappointed when I told him the most he could probably charge was 25 or 50 cents.

Later that day he came to me, and asked me to come see the store he set up for Olivia. He had set up a little store with some of his toys he doesn't really play with anymore. He was going to sell them to Olivia for $1 a toy. He even set his piggy bank out where she could put her money. Of course I was the mean mom and told him that was not very fair for Olivia. I gave him some extra jobs to do around the house so that he could earn some extra money. He was not as excited about that.

Oh, how do their little minds work?

Today Olivia asked me "Mom, how do pigs pee?". I'm not always sure how to answer her questions. I said "I don't know, standing up."
